One of Northern New York's best-kept secrets is an endless list of attractions and
points of interest for those of you wishing a little variety in your
vacation. Did you know that within a 25 minute drive you can be in the
heart of the world famous 1000 Islands Region and the mighty St.
Lawrence River? In Alexandria Bay you can enjoy top rated dining, specialty
shopping, nightlife for all ages, tour boats and Boldt Castle. There are
even attractions for the youngsters including petting and aqua zoos,
world class go-kart racing and a 36 hole mini golf course.
Our guests have taken advantage of the many
outdoor activities offered in the region including tennis, excellent
golf courses, sporting clays & trap and skeet ranges, municipal
swimming pools and public beaches, farmers markets, endless garage and
road-side sales, modified and stock car racing track, and even white
water rafting on the Black River in Watertown. Adventurous anglers and
sportsmen have trailered their boat to the many launch access sites and
fished other lakes within the Indian River Chain, which Black Lake is
part of. These include Butterfield Lake, Red Lake, Muskelunge Lake,
Millsite Lake and Yellow Lake. Or you may want to launch on the river and
cruise the majestic St. Lawrence from Ogdensburg to Clayton.
The outdoorsy stuff is great but what's
there to do on the rare windy, rainy, cold, not-crazy-enough-to-fish
days? How about visiting a few of our local museums like the
Frederic Remington Art Museum in Ogdensburg, or the antique boat museum
in Clayton (just to name a few). A short 40-minute drive to Watertown
will provide you with mall shopping or visit Fort Drum, the home of the
U.S. Army's mighty 10th Mountain Division. How about a trip north to
Massena (55 minutes) to see the Seaway Project and the giant laker ships
travel through the Eisenhower Locks. There is even a new gambling
casino on the Mohawk Indian Reservation.
Even though we won't admit it openly, there is more to a fishing vacation
than just fishing. We'll provide you with all additional help to locate
and investigate these many attractions. McLear's is right smack dab in
the middle of all the action and is an excellent starting point.
